London - Using a Whitby jet for the basis of her jewelry collection, Jacqueline Cullen is inspired by the dramatic acts of nature. Lightening, jagged rock and angular formations inform each hand-made piece. Combining the prehistoric black fossil with diamonds and gold celebrate and disguise the natural, inherent flaws and inclusions in the stone resulting in a striking, dramatic look. Formally trained in London as a jewelry designer, she found Whitby jet - most commonly associated with Victorian mourning jewelry - a way to incorporate material from disused mines and ancient caves. Central to her aesthetic is bold, fluid form where fractures, fissures and crevices release a luxurious cascade of textured gold or shimmering diamonds.
