River of Birds Ringcas-rrb
This edgy, hand engraved sterling silver Castro Smith signet ring has a solid feel and eye-catching design. All along the oxidized sterling silver band are small, carved birds set with 24K yellow gold plating. The oval ring face shows a blue lacquered river broken up by engraved white-capped waves. The interior of the ring shows a light engraving of swirling waves, continuing the composition so only the wearer knows. The ring has been finished with a watchmaker scratch-resistant coating for extra resilience.

EAST LONDON - Castro started training as a painter and printmaker and his work is inspired by history, myths and biology. He studied with one of the largest engraving firms RH Wilkins to learn his technique, 'seal engraving', which goes back to ancient times. A seal is always engraved in reverse and is much deeper than traditional two-dimensional hand engraving with a third or fourth dimension added which is deeper and finer and takes much more time to achieve. He uses his knowledge of engraving to create contemporary pieces and to experiment with European and Japanese engraving techniques.
